Group Descriptions
Level 1 - Bronze Group
Beginner (non-competitive & competitive) swimmers
Swimmers focus on mastering basic skills for the 4 competitive strokes - freestyle, breaststroke, butterfly and backstroke. Proper body positions and balance are stressed along with kicking and basic drills. In addition swimmers are introduced to starts and turns. Swimmers are also introduced to beginning training and swim meet procedures. Level 1 is broken into three subgroups (Gold, Silver and Bronze) for more specialized instruction. Level 1 Gold can begin swimming competition with the Coaching Staff’s approval.
Level 2 - Silver Group
Intermediate & Advanced (competitive) swimmers
This group is the level in which swimmers move from primarily stroke development and technique instruction to emphasis on training. Drill work and kicking will continue to make up a large portion of this group; however, swimming sets will be added. At Level 2 Silver, goal setting will be introduced and swimmers will be expected to be more accountable for their progress in swimming. Consistent practice attendance is necessary for continued improvement and advancement to the next level. Interval training is an important aspect of this group and minimum standards may be expected. This is the first level where a higher plane of commitment to the sport is important for continued success.
Level 3 - Gold Group
Advanced & Senior Development
This group represents the first introduction to high performance training with the goal of achieving Southern California Junior Olympic success. In addition a primary goal is to achieve Southern California Swimming Senior Development times. Level 3 swimmers will be expected to complete 5,000 yards of swimming each practice and competitively swim all four strokes. Swimmers at this level will gain exposure towards mental/psychological preparation needed for eventual success at the national level. Level 3 swimmers will be taught to express their desire for success through hard work both in and out of the water. However, the most significant goal of this group is learning and achieving time management. The expectation from the Coaching Staff for this group is for our athletes to succeed in the classroom and attend almost every practice offered. Parents should have a clear line of communication of travel and camp plans with the coaching staff in order to maximize the athlete’s performance.
